FITNESS GRAM TESTING
Along with dancing and having fun, we are currently working on fitness testing. Fitness gram is a fitness assessment and reporting program for youth, first developed in 1982 by The Cooper Institute in response to the need for a comprehensive set of assessment procedures in physical education programs. The assessment includes a variety of health-related physical fitness tests that assess aerobic capacity, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility and body composition. Scores from these assessments are compared to Healthy Fitness Zone standards to determine students overall physical fitness and suggest areas for improvement when appropriate. Fitnessgram reports inform parents on children's fitness levels. Scores are evaluated against objective criterion-based standards, called Healthy Fitness Zone standards, that indicate the level of fitness necessary for health. Fitnessgram software generates the student and parent reports, which contain objective, personalized feedback and positive reinforcement. Fitness gram testing involves exercises like sit ups, pull-ups, pacer run, one mile run, sit and reach, push-ups, flex arm hang and trunk lift test.
